Measure

Create a TikTok pixel

Connect your website to TikTok to measure results and optimize delivery, through the events manager.

In brief

The TikTok pixel is a piece of code placed on your website. It tells TikTok what visitors do (view a page, add to cart, buy). This data is used to measure results and to optimize delivery toward the people most likely to convert. It is managed in Events Manager, which can also receive data sent from a server (Events API).

Why it matters

  • Without a data source, a sales or lead campaign on your website can’t optimize for conversions: the tool says that a data connection is required.
  • The same data feeds retargeting audiences and reports.

The steps

  1. Open Events Manager from the left-hand menu. Depending on the account, the tool may first ask you to verify your phone number.
  2. Choose to connect a data source: the pixel for a website, or an event source for an app.
  3. Name the pixel, then choose how to install it: code to copy into your site, a tag manager tool, or your sales platform's integration.
  4. Add the useful events: purchase, lead, add to cart… (see the guide on conversion events).
  5. Check that events are coming in before launching the campaign.
  6. In the ad group, select this source in the Data connection field.

Pitfalls to avoid

  • Launching a sales campaign without a connected data source: conversion optimization isn’t possible.
  • Installing the code twice (duplicate events).
  • Forgetting consent: in Europe, tracking must only be activated with the visitor’s agreement.
  • Choosing the wrong source (one from another site).

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a pixel for a traffic campaign? No, but it lets you measure what visitors do after the click.

Why is the optimization event greyed out? Because no data source is selected: choose one first.

What’s the difference between the pixel and the Events API? The pixel sends data from the browser; the API sends it from your server, which can fill in lost data.

Key takeaways

  • Pixel = measurement + optimization + audiences.
  • It is managed in Events Manager.
  • Without a data connection, no optimization for conversions.
