What a pixel and a conversions API are for, why they complement each other, and how to practice without touching a real website.
· 2 min read
Without measurement, an ad campaign is blind spending. The pixel and the conversions API are the two tools that link what happens on a website to the ads that caused it.
The pixel
The pixel is a small piece of code installed on a website. It tells the platform what visitors do: page view, add to cart, purchase, form submitted. See Create a pixel.
The conversions API
The conversions API sends information from the website’s server rather than from the visitor’s browser. It complements the pixel, notably when browsers block some tracking. See Create an API token.
Conversion events
Pixel and API send events. Choosing the right ones means telling the platform what matters to you. See Configure conversion events.
Classic mistakes
Installing the pixel but defining no useful event.
Optimizing for an event that is too rare, which gives delivery nothing to learn from.
Counting the same conversion twice when pixel and API overlap.
Practice safely
Installing a pixel on a real website requires technical access. To grasp the logic before touching one, TRIALO lets you handle these notions in a fictional account.
